Jag har fått en intervju med Brian Hollingworth på Black Gate Distillery. Först kommer originalintervjun på engelska, och i slutet finns en svensk översättning.

Black Gate Distillery is located in Mendooran NSW (New South Wales), Australia. It is a small distillery founded in 2009, which produces single malt whisky and dark rum in a very small scale. Genise is responsible for rum production and Brian for whisky production.

I got an interview with Brian Hollingworth.

Brian, please tell my readers who you are & how you got involved in the whisky industry?
Together with my wife, Genise, we researched the whisky industry in Australia and the UK and then opened Black Gate in our front yard (a small lifestyle block just out of the small town of Mendooran).

How would you define the Black Gate style?
I would describe our whisky as diverse, our first releases have all been quite different, some peated, some not, although the spirit we now make has developed its own style, I would describe the flavour as 'big and dirty' with a touch of peat smoke, that's what makes it special, the 'big' flavour.

Have you tried any whisky from Sweden? If so, what did you think of it?
I have not tried any Swedish whisky but am always keen to explore new and different flavours!

What is the favourite moment in your whisky career?
My favourite career moment so far has to be the inclusion of all our products in the drinks range of Noma Australia at their pop up restaurant in Sydney, this was very special for us and was made possible by Kathleen Davies, our distributor  from "Nip of Courage".

Which three people would you invite for a whisky tasting, and why? (alive or dead)
My Father, as he passed away before Black Gate was even thought of and was a big fan of good whisky.
Paul Kelly, (Autralian singer/song writer) because his music goes so well with whisky drinking.
W C Fields, he has the best ever whisky quote '"Always carry a flagon of whisky in case of snakebite. Furthermore, always carry a small snake".

Finally, do you have any advice concerning whisky to share with my readers?
My only advice would be to enjoy as many different whiskies as you can!

Brian, berätta för mina läsare vem du är och hur du blev involverad i whiskyindustrin?
Tillsammans med min fru, Genise, utforskade vi whiskyindustrin i Australien och Storbritannien och sedan öppnade vi Black Gate Distillery på vår egen gård (belägen på ett litet stillsamt område strax utanför den lilla staden Mendooran).

Hur skulle du definiera Black Gate´s stil?
Jag skulle beskriva våra whiskysläpp som ganska olika, våra första utgåvor har alla varit speciella på sitt sätt, vissa rökiga, vissa inte, men det känns som att vi nu har utvecklat en egen stil, jag skulle beskriva smaken som "stor och smutsig" med en touch av torvrök, det är vad som gör den speciell, den "stora" smaken.

Har du provat någon whisky från Sverige? Om så är fallet, vad tyckte du om den?
Jag har inte provat någon svensk whisky men är alltid angelägen och nyfiken på att utforska nya och olika smaker!

Vilket är ditt mest minnesvärda ögonblick i din whiskykarriär?
Mitt favoritögonblick hittills måste vara införandet av alla våra produkter på Noma Australia på deras pop-up restaurang i Sydney, detta var mycket speciellt för oss och har möjliggjorts genom Kathleen Davies, vår distributör från "Nip av Mod".

Vilka tre personer skulle du bjuda in till en whiskyprovning, och varför? (levande eller döda).
Min far
- som tyvärr gick bort innan Black Gate ens var påtänkt, eftersom han var en stor beundrare av god whisky.
Paul Kelly (Australiensisk singer songwriter)
- eftersom hans musik går så bra med ihop med whisky.
W C Fields

Slutligen, har du några råd om whisky som du skulle vilja delge mina läsare?
Mitt enda råd skulle vara att njuta av så många olika whiskysorter som du bara kan!
